VON SCHWARZWALD GERMAN SHEPHERDS
I have owned, bred, and trained German Shepherds for over 13 years! I am a small breeder who focuses on quality over quantity. I usually have 1-2 litters of puppies for sale every year. I am present for every birth and from day one until they go home (at 8-10 weeks) they are imprinted on and socialized in our home. Our german shepherd puppies start house training at 4 weeks old and are 90% (or more) house trained when they go to their new homes.
I take time off of work to be home as much as possible with my pups and spend hours every day interacting with them and learning their personalities and temperaments.
I am a firm believer in finding the right fit for each puppy and family. If you do not suit this breed, I will not place a puppy in your home. I am extremely careful with the homes my pups go to as they are WORKING DOGS. These puppies don't stay little and they require daily exercise and training of some sort to keep their minds engaged. In the wrong environment, a GSD can become bored, destructive and even fearful/aggressive if left to their own devices.
In the right environment, they will thrive and they truly become your best friend and constant shadow. These dogs are loyal, and they deserve the same from their families.
I have puppies in family, working, sport, ranching/herding and service dog homes who love and excel at their jobs. I breed specifically for solid temperaments and structures. I want dogs that will last and that will age well! A huge part of this comes down to their home lifestyle (food, activity levels, etc.) and this is another reason that I am extremely picky about where my pups go.
All of my breeding dogs have solid temperaments and structures. They are brilliant and they represent the breed well. We ensure that every puppy undergoes the Volhard puppy aptitude test (performed by an outside evaluator) at around 7-8 weeks old. This is VITAL! It helps me evaluate my puppies individually, and place each puppy in the right home based off of their results, and what I see as a breeder after interacting with them daily for 8+ weeks.
I offer a lifetime of breeder support and I am always quick to help my puppy families in any way I can. If you have any questions, please let me know! I am happy to answer any and all questions about my breeding program and my beloved pups.
My puppies' health begins with healthy parents!

EXERCISE: Our breeding dogs are ACTIVE! They are worked/trained regularly to maintain their health and stimulate their minds. But they do have an amazing off switch at the end of the day and can just relax with us as we wind down for the night. Something I love!
DIET: We feed our dogs Diamond Naturals kibble (Chicken and rice). We supplement their diet with raw foods including pumpkin, green beans, raw meats (beef and chicken) with bone in and skin on. DO NOT FEED COOKED BONES! We only feed raw bones, as they don't splinter and are as close to their normal diet in the wild as we can get.
TREATS: We are huge fans of bully sticks for our pups. NO RAWHIDE! We also love using antlers and beef soup bones! *Fun tip* Fill a kong toy or a hollow beef bone with peanut butter and freeze for a nice teething chew for your new pup!
VACCINATIONS: All of our dogs are kept UTD on their rabies and yearly vaccinations. All of our puppies receive vet checks and vaccines at between 6-7 weeks old. We want to be sure there are no bad reactions before they are released to their new homes at 8-10 weeks old.
WORMER: All of our dogs are wormed every 3 months and our puppies are wormed every 2 weeks beginning at 4 weeks old.
GROOMING: These dogs shed! Haha! We manage our dog's shedding with regular brushing and a bath every other month, sometimes every couple of months depending on how dirty they get. They mainly blow out their entire coat twice a year, if you groom them thoroughly at those times, then their regular day to day shedding isn't too bad.
All in all, we do our very best to ensure that every puppy from our breeding program has an incredible start and we also ensure that each of them goes home in great health. We want them to succeed and to live a long a happy life!
Our dedication to our puppies and their families is truly unwavering which all of our (past & present) puppy families can and will attest to!
Our dogs and puppies are family. They carry the truly wonderful, characteristic traits, of a GSD working dog.
Every one of them has an on and off switch. They can go all day and they can also lay at your feet and relax with you. *Keeping them active helps them to relax better at the end of the day.*
You will hear me say it a hundred times... SOLID TEMPERAMENTS! Every one of my breeding dogs and puppies has an incredible temperament. We do not breed aggressive dogs! Nor do we condone the BYB breeders we have seen doing so.
We breed attentive, intelligent dogs, that if necessary, will instinctively protect their families and homes. But not one of our breeding dogs will show aggression unless provoked by violent or aggressive behavior. They are born protectors. They are watchful over those they love, but never should a dog be so aggressive that it can't be approached (with the ok of the handler). My dogs love meeting new people and especially love children. They are exposed to a variety of animals/environments as well.
I want them confident, NOT fearful and NOT aggressive. Protective and aggressive are two very different things. Protective dogs are confident, while aggressive dogs are just afraid.
Having a confident pup requires TONS of socialization and regular obedience training! (After they receive their necessary vaccines.)
A LITTLE ABOUT THE BREED: Because this watchful, self-assured breed is nearly unmatched in intelligence, German Shepherds excel in high-pressure jobs that require next-level problem solving, like search and rescue, service work, or protection work. These extremely confident dogs are keen observers and thinkers who have an uncanny ability to make decisions and problem-solve on the fly. They’re lauded for their courage, which is another trait that makes them a versatile working and family companion.
German Shepherds bond strongly with their families and are incredibly loving companions which is a true hallmark of the German Shepherd breed. For that reason, they’re a fantastic match for families who have the time to devote to training and exercising them. Because they are known to be protective of their family and territory, THOROUGH socialization at a young age is important to prevent reactivity to people and other dogs.
German Shepherds are sweet, loyal, fun-loving companions who can be EXTREMLY silly and playful. So, the big question... are German Shepherds good family dogs?
Yes! These pups are wonderful family dogs! (When matched with a household that understands and meets their needs.)
